Best Luanda Nightlife

Luanda, the capital city of Angola, is a festive, vibrant place with plenty to do and even more to see. Where Luanda really shines, though, is in its eclectic nightlife. Not only do Angolans love to have a good time, but they’re very inviting people. Meaning any and all newcomers are more than welcome to party it up with the locals.

It’s not hard to find a good club in the city. You can throw a rock and find a party full of fun, friendly people. Yes, there is crime in Luanda, so you shouldn’t wander around without knowing where you’re going. But it’s not going to be difficult finding clubs and other venues near your home or hotel.

Luanda also has several high-quality cinemas if you’re in the mood to see a movie. With spacious auditoriums, buttery popcorn, and the latest Hollywood blockbusters, it’s a great cure for when you’re homesick. ZAP Cinemas is the most notable multiplex in the city and offers over half a dozen screens, as well as IMAX and 3D showings.

Angolans take their partying seriously, so don’t be surprised to find clubs that are among the best you’ve ever visited. This is especially true if you visit Ilha de Luanda, a sandspit off the southwestern coast of the city. Not only will you find fantastic beaches all along the Ilha, but there are numerous restaurants and venues as well. The entire strip of land is like one big, private club full of dancing and swimming.

Let’s take a look at some of the more popular clubs in Luanda.

The Lookal Ocean Club

The Lookal Ocean Club is something of a one-stop-shop when it comes to the Luanda nightlife. It offers a beach for relaxing and stargazing, a restaurant if you’re feeling hungry, and a dance floor if you want to bust a move to electronic and urban music from all around the world. You can’t go wrong with a place that has it all.

The Switch Restaurant

The Switch Restaurant is a restaurant first and a club second, but it’s one of the best-rated bars and pubs in the city, if not the entire country. They offer a wide range of cocktails and delicious fresh food, all made-to-order.

Taverna do Belas

If you’re in the mood for something quieter, the Taverna do Belas offers a relaxing, intimate atmosphere where you can enjoy both Portuguese and European cuisine. It’s all reasonably priced, undeniably tasty, and surprisingly unique. It’s an excellent spot to hit if you’re simply visiting.

Luanda Naval Club

Finally, there’s the Luanda Naval Club, a combination nightclub and sports bar that’s located along the Ilha. They serve delicious local food and, if you’re looking to take the edge off, a variety of local and international beers and whiskeys.

There’s no shortage of things to do in Luanda once the sun goes down. It’s far too much to fit into one article, but hopefully this gives you an idea of what’s available in this bright, lively city.
