In fact, it actually took the top spot from Hong Kong a few times in the recent past as the most expensive city for expats. <strong>Despite<\/strong> the fact that half of the city\u2019s population lives in poverty, the robust oil economy makes it a hot spot for business. There is a <strong>high demand<\/strong> for high-end living has greatly inflated the price of rent.<\/p>\n<h2>How expensive is it in these days?<\/h2>\n<p>Thankfully, the cost of living in Luanda <a href=\"https:\/\/luxafrique.net\/luanda-angola-most-expensive-city-in-the-world\/\">has relaxed quite a bit. <\/a>Though it\u2019s still<strong> far from<\/strong> a cheap place to settle down. If you\u2019re looking to move to the city, you need to be prepared for rent that\u2019s still on the high side. As of March 2022, a three-bedroom apartment in the city center carried a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expatarrivals.com\/africa\/angola\/cost-living-angola\">rental price of AOA 3,300,000<\/a>, or roughly $7,500 &#8211; $8,000USD.<\/p>\n<p>One of the reasons that rent can get so high in the city is because you\u2019re paying for <strong>security<\/strong>. Sections of Luanda can get very dangerous when it comes to violent and financially-motivated crime. Naturally there\u2019s increased <strong>demand<\/strong> for housing in <strong>safer neighborhoods<\/strong>. With so many expats moving there to pursue business interests, there\u2019s a <strong>shortage<\/strong> of housing in safer areas.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=&#8221;77546&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;right&#8221;][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2>Families Living in Luanda<\/h2>\n<p>If you\u2019re a parent moving to Luanda, you\u2019ll want to factor in <strong>education costs,<\/strong> which is going to raise living expenses considerably. Public schooling in the city leaves much to be desired, which leaves <strong>private schooling<\/strong> as the only real option. Tuition fees for these schools can be incredibly steep. Not to mention the costs of textbooks, uniforms, and other things that the schools don\u2019t provide.<\/p>\n<p>Public transportation is an option, but, as with so many other things in the city, there are issues with <strong>quality and safety<\/strong>. Most expats living in Luanda drive their own vehicles or hire drivers to transport them around. There\u2019s plenty of <strong>benefit<\/strong> to having a <strong>driver<\/strong> that knows the city well. This isn\u2019t a major expense, nor is it all that unexpected, but still something you\u2019ll need to factor into your overall budget.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to all of that, you\u2019re going to be purchasing a lot of<strong> imported goods.<\/strong> Which are naturally going to be more expensive than if those goods were produced locally. Fortunately, the city is moving towards producing more goods on its own.<\/p>\n<h2>Expensive for the Businesses<\/h2>\n<p>The vast majority of <strong>expats<\/strong> living in Luanda are there for <strong>work purposes.<\/strong><br \/>\nThe good news is that <a href=\"https:\/\/ybeangola.com\/is-angola-good-for-business\/\">companies who do business in Luanda<\/a> are <strong>well aware<\/strong> of how expensive it is to live in Luanda. This means that these <a href=\"https:\/\/ybeangola.com\/where-do-expats-live-in-luanda\/\">expats<\/a> usually have the majority of their needs covered. Including everything listed above. The city and surrounding region offers so much business potential.
